R 50 - Ritterstraße 50

In 2010, the Senate provided co-housing communities with the unique possibility of purchasing property within Berlin's city center. As with the first such property awarding procedure, one of the groups we advised was awarded the land bid, allowing them to build on a property in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin. This project has declared it as its explicit goal to implement community-oriented considerations wherever possible, such as including a large number of community spaces both inside and out. At the same time, it has been the goal of the architects involved to realize the project in an especially cost-effective way in order to enable interested parties to participate in the project that would otherwise be unable to breach the high cost threshold. For example, unified standards have been used, simple construction principles have been implemented, and the group has been forgoing any planning- and cost-intensive individualized apartment design features.
