Chatham University Hopes To Model Sustainable Living With New Residential Community

Written by Sarah Schneider for Pittsburgh's NPR News Station, the article introduces the work being done to realise the State's first on-campus Ecological cohousing village. Now in its early planning and designing stages, the Rachel Carson EcoVillage is set to be built and inhabited by 2022, combining building and technological standards approved by the Passive House Institute and a reduction in energy demand, as described by Stefani Danes, architect and project manager. Particularly interesting is the close planned physical and intellectual proximity with a continuing learning institution such as Chatham University, which is already experimenting with organic farming and zero-emissions building on campus.
